Independence Day fell on the weekend and our friends invited us to their lake house in
Volente, TX which backs up to Lake Travis. Zak had asked us to bring our dogs before but I always told Anthony no because I didn't want to have to watch the dogs and hold Duncan. But, this time Antony was like "I'm going to watch them" I said okay because I'm going to be helping in the kitchen and drinking with the ladies so I'm not going to watch then and don't want to. So we decided...we're taking the dogs. As we're get dress I had my concerns as I know Alexis is a bit hyper around other dogs and Duncan is the opposite he'll wonder off to get away from other dogs but I believed that Anthony would handle everything. On our way he wanted to contribute to the festivities so we stopped by HEB got ice, hot dog, buns and a huge watermelon. As we arrived we got the items out the car and the dogs and headed to their house. We were on time and we couldn't stay the whole time as Anthony had to go to work. We were the first guest. Zak was getting the pit ready and Dani was upstairs. I hung out with them for just a moment then told Anthony I was going upstairs. I wanted to mention "remember to watch the dogs" but I didn't want to nag so I just told him I was headed up. He said okay. I helped Dani for about 30 minutes to an hour then when downstairs to check on the guys in the backyard. As I was walked down I saw our dog Alexis and their two dogs but no Duncan. So I asked Anthony where he was. He said "He's around here" I
immediately started to look for him. I went down to the lake, over to the cars and near the front of the property. As I made to the backyard I saw Anthony and he asked "Did you find him"
OMG!!!! My heart stopped. I knew he had wondered off. And, he's never been here before so maybe he's lost. Zak, Anthony and I started to look for him calling his name...but no Duncan. And hour later Dani was finished with the food prep and helped me look in the car. At this time I started to tear up. I dropped her back at the house and guest were starting to arrive and Anthony got in the car with me. 30 minutes later....still no Duncan. I got out and started to walk. I when next door but their weren't home. But, the house next to them the man just drove up in the garage. I announced myself. He told me it was his daughter's house and they weren't coming back until tomorrow. I gave him my number and he told me he would be on the look out, such a sweet man. After I left, I started to cry, I called my parents and talked to my Mom as I was feeling really scared and sick. My parents were in Victoria, TX as my uncle's place and offered to come help but they couldn't do anything. At this point I'm thinking he's lost, someone picked him up and had him or he's been eaten or hurt by another animal. Because he normally wonders but he doesn't go far. Then, I called Val and she calmed me down a little. I walked back to the street and Anthony got out to walk and I got in the car. By this time, some of the guest had arrived but started to help us with the search. This was terrible...this will possible ruin 4
th of July. I was thinking, how can I forgive him if he's lost my dog...my baby! I was so scared. He got back in the car with me and we drove a bit more. He saw something and walked over. I was waiting in the car
nervously. Then he yelled out "I found him" My heart began beating again. I drove as close as I could and ran toward them. Duncan was next door on their back porch just chilling. He had been missing for 3 hours. I was so happy that Anthony found him...once again my hero. He was at the house of the daughter that wasn't home. We drove back to the party. Everyone wanted to know what happened. They all got on Anthony for me so I didn't have to say anything. The party started it was fun the food and drinks were good. But then Alexis wasn't getting alone with another female dog and we had to calm them down. This was a very eventful day! On our way home I asked Anthony how he felt as he was so quiet when we didn't know where he was. He just said he was scared and didn't have anything to say as he knew it was his fault and told me it would never happen again.
